For his Valentine's night call-in show, host Charlie D plans to offer his listeners two hours on the topic of "satisfaction." His in-studio guest is twenty-five-year-old Misty de Vol Burgh, formerly the highest-paid escort in the city but now happily married to eighty-three-year-old billionaire Henry Burgh. It's all good fun until Charlie receives a chilling message: "It's take-out-the-garbage night. Time to kill all the hookers and wash the streets with blood." When Charlie is directed to a website that allows viewers to watch the murder of a prostitute in real time and promises that another killing will be broadcast live within the hour, the hunt is on. But The World According to Charlie D. has an audience of over a million listeners. The murderer could be anyone, anywhere. Charlie and his team have less than two hours to find and stop the killer.                                                                                                            ©2013 Gail Bowen (P)2013 Post Hypnotic Press
My Review:
I'd have to say that The Thirteenth Rose is the most thrilling of all the Charlie D Mysteries!  I also must say that it seemed to have the most mystery out of all four titles!  It was easily an entertaining read!

Daniel Maté did a superb job of portraying Charlie D, and honestly, he is what made the books for me!  He made listening seamless and flawless!  He sounded just like what I thought Charlie D should sound like and was the perfect persona for a radio show personality, especially a late night radio talk show host!  I really hope to see that he follows through on narrating and really hope to see him land some big mystery titles!!  This guy has it going on for him!

Gail Bowen is a great writer!  She knows what she wants to come across and delivers it with perfection!  She's got the short story knack down and I'll be interested to see what else she'll come out with!

Overall, I enjoyed all of the Charlie D mysteries and am glad that I went out on a limb and requested them!  I sometimes have a hard time venturing away from author's that are unknown to me, but this one was worth my time!  If you have a little extra time and want to read or listen to something short and easy, any of the Charlie D mystery short stories would be a great choice!

It's Father's Day weekend - a tough time for Charlie D, host of a late-night radio call-in show that offers supportive advice to troubled listeners. For years Charlie has been alienated from his father - a retired politician who was always too busy for his son when Charlie was growing up. The trouble is, his dad has chosen this weekend to attempt to reconcile with his son. Charlie is not keen to forgive. But Charlie's personal issues suddenly seem mundane when an email arrives from a young listener that outlines his very specific plans to kill not just his father but his entire family. The deeply troubled boy could be anywhere, and Charlie has just two hours to discover his identity and stop him from murder. Rapid Reads are intended for a diverse audience, including ESL students, reluctant readers, adults who struggle with literacy and anyone who wants a high-interest, quick listen.                                                                                 ©2011 Gail Bowen (P)2013 Post Hypnotic Press
My Review:
I must say that this was probably my least favorite of all of the Charlie D short stories, but even though it was my least favorite, it still didn't make me dislike it.  I think that each story has helped develop Charlie's character.

Gail Bowen seems to have a knack for writing short stories!  I have said it before and I will probably say it at least one more time, but she has mastered the length of story for a short story!  Too often, short stories are either way too short and don't divulge enough, or they are way too long and divulge way too much, but she seems to have the perfect recipe!

I was able to quickly listen to this and move on to finish the series with the easy listening from the narrator, Daniel Maté!  His voice has left a lasting impression on me and even though I read these a couple months ago, I can still hear his voice ringing through, clear as day!!

Overall, it was a quick easy read and I didn't mind finishing at all!

Charlie D is back doing his late-night radio call-in show. It's Halloween - The Day of the Dead. Not a day filled with good memories for Charlie, but the show must go on. His studio guest this evening is Dr. Robin Harris, an arrogant and ambitious "expert in the arts of dying and grieving," who also seems to be auditioning for her own radio talk show. Charlie and Dr. Harris do not hit it off. Things go from bad to worse when the doctor's ex-lover, Gabe, goes on air to announce that he's about to end his life. Dr. Harris is entirely unsympathetic until she learns that Gabe also has her daughter Kali and plans to poison her too. It will take all of Charlie D's on-air skills to save both Gabe and Kali. ©2010 Gail Bowen (P)2013 Post Hypnotic Press
My Review:
I think that this was one of my favorite stories in the Charlie D Rapid Reads series! I thought that it helped build up Charlie D's character even more from the first story, Love You To Death but it still stood out and told it's own story.

Again, I felt like the length suited the story perfectly!  It didn't feel like it was rushed or prolonged, it just fit together perfectly!  The narrator, Daniel Maté, again delivers a stellar performance, probably making this series as good as it was for me!

Each story can be read separately as a stand alone or together without you feeling lost or out in left field.  I think they are solid stories that are put together well!

Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to pick up another book by Gail Bowen because I found her Charlie D series to be rather entertaining!

Charlie D. is the host of a successful late-night radio call-in show. His listeners have a particularly intimate relationship with him and often reveal much about themselves, confident that he will honor their trust and that he can save them. In their minds, he is perfect: one of life's winners. But Charlie feels he's something of a fake. His easy confidence on-air belies the reality for a man born with a wine-colored birthmark that covers half his face. Love You to Death covers one hour on "The World According to Charlie D." - an hour during which he must both discover the long-time listener who is killing the people who trust him and attempt to come to terms with the man behind the birthmark.                                                                                                  ©2010 Gail Bowen (P)2013 Post Hypnotic Press
My Review:
I had actually only requested The Thirteenth Rose, on Audiobook Jukebox, not really know that first off, it was part of a series, let alone book 4 in the series, and secondly that it was a short story!  Much to my surprise, when I received the email from the Publisher, they had told me that they included the whole series for my enjoyment, if I so desired, or I was more than welcome to only read the requested book, so immediately, I was impressed with the generosity of the Publisher, so I figured the least that I could do was listen to all of them if they were going to be kind enough to give them all to me, plus, all four of them put together wasn't as long as a typical audio book normally is, so I started with this book, Love You To Death.

I have to be honest and tell you that given that I had never heard of the author before, and that they were all short stories, I really wasn't expecting much with the Charlie D series, but I'll be the first to admit that I was pleasantly surprised with my listening experience!  I enjoyed Charlie D as a character and his late-night radio broadcase/talk show and thought that the narrator, Daniel Maté, portrayed Charlie D, exactly how I would have pictured him, so bravo Daniel Maté, BRAVO!!!

For a short story, I think it was the perfect length to be able to convey the story that Gail Bowen was trying to get across!  It was a great introduction into the life of Charlie D and his nighttime radio show.  It was interesting enough to keep me listening and to make me want to move on to the second book in the series One Fine Day You're Gonna Die.

Overall, I thought that this was a great short story with good character buildup and a good plot!  I was impressed with how much  I liked this short story!  I definitely would have given it a 3.5 rating if it were available!
