First in the Minnie Markwood Mysteries: Minnie Markwood can out-sleuth Miss Marple any day of the week - in her imagination. But when a real killer begins to target Minnie and her young sidekicks, reality trumps imagination big time. Who's buying up all the red shoelaces at the mall and stalking a cashier? Is it the killer who terrorized Minnie on the highway and kidnapped her coworker? It soon becomes frighteningly clear that Minnie's onto something, and The Red Shoelace Killer's days are numbered. ©2012 Susan Sundwall (P)2014 Susan Sundwall
For this being a self-published book, I must say that I am impressed. It appears that this is the first book of this nature for author Susan Sundwall, and she did a pretty good job!
I always think that I want humor while reading a mystery, and if that's the kind of book you like, then you should like The Red Shoelace Killer. It was hard at times to take the book serious though due to the funny content of the book!
I didn't care for the narrator, Lee Ann Howlett, too much though! I would have taken her to be quite a bit older than what her picture appears based on the sound of her voice. Maybe it's that she doesn't typically read mystery books...I don't know, but I wasn't impressed.
I felt that Sundwall did a thorough job of creating solid characters throughout the book, it was just the story that I had my dislikes with. I am a fan of hard-core mystery books, and this just doesn't fit within that category. Yes, I do venture beyond my typical likes, I just cannot say that this is a book that I really liked!
Overall, I think that Sundwall did a good job with what appears to be one of her first major writes! I also think that practice makes perfect and that this has the potential to be a decent series, should she pursue the series in the future!
